but I can't teach math

What if I told you you don't have to? 

This article makes me wonder what would have happened if they'd done the same experiment with other subjects, such as language arts.  My suspicion is the results would have been very similar...

Thank you for the link to this very timely and thought-provoking article. I'd heard about the benefits of delayed formal mathematics in the book Teaching the Triviium. I admit, as a former classroom teacher, I was quite skeptical. But for the past year or so, my 8 year old has struggled with basic math concepts in our homeschool. The frustration has been mounting to the point where I was considering just dumping the math workbook altogether for a time. This may have been the push I needed to take that jump!
